Magical Stars

Stars, winter, and Christmas go together wonderfully! Your stars will look sophisticated if they are made of Erfurt high-quality wallcoverings. Different textured wallcoverings can create an exciting light play, especially if they are hung in front of a window. Thanks to the flexible dimensions of the lengths that can be cut from the roll of wallpaper, the stars can be folded from a single length, meaning no unattractive gluing areas. There’s also plenty of scope for the creative among you: Use different cuts to create a myriad of patterns.

Template

1. First, get the materials ready and cut the wallpaper. The strip should be approx. 140 cm long. The width of wallpaper for the large star is 25 cm, 22 cm for the medium star, and 17 cm for the small star.

2. Roll out the wallpaper with the narrow edge facing forwards and fold it upwards. The width of the fold should be approximately 5-7 cm. Use a folding stick to press down on the fold to obtain a precise edge.

3. Roll up the wallpaper a little more and fold it in the opposite direction. Make sure that you keep straight. Ensure that the left and right ends of the folds always lie flush with the remaining strips of wallpaper. Try and make sure that the folds preferably have the same width so that the star looks attractive once finished.

4. Use this technique to fold the entire length of wallpaper to create a zigzag fold. Don’t worry if the last fold is shorter than the others. It will be glued later.

5. Then either position the template or draw the pattern free hand for the outer points. The best way to do this is to first lay 2 folds on top of each other and allow the rest to fall away. Then cut diagonally from bottom to top.

6. Now arrange another two folds on top of or underneath the fold you have already cut and cut them in the same way. The folds you have already cut act as a kind of template. Continue in the same way with the entire folded length of wallcovering.

7. Now it’s time for the decorative cuts. You can either draw them from a template or free hand. You may wish to draw the shape across all the folds to make sure that the fold does not slip and become crooked when you cut the other folds.

8. Now lay 2 folds on top of each other and cut them. Then do the same with the next two. Continue in this way until all the folds of wallpaper have been cut. Make any additional cuts in the same way. Ultimately they should all lie flush on top of each other.

9. Use the punch pliers to make a hole in the middle through all the folds at the bottom straight end. If you do not have punch pliers to hand, you can also use a normal hole punch.

10. Now hold the straight side of the star together and unfold the side with the points to make a circle. Lie the first and last fold on top of each other, continuing the zigzag pattern. You might need to slightly shorten the first and last piece.

11. Glue the star together using clear, double-sided adhesive tape. Press down firmly and press the fold again with your fingers.

12. Finally, run a nylon thread in the centre through all the holes and knot the ends together. You can then either hang up your star from this nylon thread, or tie a decorative thread of your choice to this nylon thread.

Handy hint:  Of course, you can adapt and vary the stars to suit your taste and mood. The smaller the width of the fold, the more points your star will ultimately have. But take care: You will need to adjust the pattern for cuts with a narrower fold width. To do so, just line up the pattern flush with the left edge (for cuts on the left side) and then with the right edge (for cuts on the right side) or simply use your imagination to make the cuts.

Your choice of different wallcovering textures can also help to create exciting looks. Just give it a try!
