DIY school cone

The first day of school is always an exciting event in the life of a child, one they are sure never to forget. As we all know, a school cone is an integral part of this special day and there is a wide range of cones available in stores. However, home-made cones are often more beautiful as they are personal and their individual design gives them more emotional significance.

This home-made school cone looks great but can also be filled with small surprises

Use our check-list to help you remember the most important points about the first day at school.

1. Cut a piece of wallpaper to the size of your school cone.

2. Tie a ribbon to the end of the pen.

3. Use your finger to hold the ribbon in the bottom corner of the wallpaper and, with the ribbon stretched, draw an arc from one edge to the other.

4. Cut along the line you have drawn in step 3.

5. You now have the body of the school cone and can roll it into the shape of the cone.

6. Then apply the adhesive to the long side and form the cone.

7. Carefully press the glued edges together.

8. Glue the closure of the school cone (here: veil, otherwise crepe paper) along the upper edge.

9. Almost done. Now for the creative part! Take your selected decorations and unleash your creativity. In this example, we first cut out the woodchip numbers.

10. Now it's time to apply your decorations.

11. Fill your home-made school cone with sweets, little toys and a few school items, like erasers or pens.

12. You’re done! Now use a ribbon to seal the school cone and you're ready for the first day of school.
