Mould remediation and protection

The ERFURT-KlimaTec climate panels

Mould is very common and is a serious problem in residential properties.

Apart from looking unsightly and smelling musty, mould also presents a risk to health. Symptoms induced by mould include respiratory problems, allergic reactions, asthma, bronchitis, a sore throat, hoarseness and coughs, as well as abdominal pain, nausea and digestive problems.

If you suffer from these symptoms, a possible cause could be mould in your home. Testing your home for contamination with mould will give you certainty.

ERFURT-KlimaTec climate panels KP 1000+ and KP 2500+ are our solution for mould remediation.

Uses

The products

ERFURT-KlimaTec climate panels KP 1000+ and KP 2500+ are made of expanded glass granulate. This building material is produced from recycled glass, which is expanded at a high temperature. This makes the material very durable and conserves resources. The tiny hollow spheres have excellent thermal insulating properties and are resistant to moisture.

The front is laminated with a glass nonwoven material and wallcoverings can be applied directly to it. The back is reinforced by a fabric webbing, which gives the panel its excellent stability. ERFURT-KlimaTec climate panels are extremely lightweight, making them very easy to handle. The panels are also very easy to cut and adapt to the layout of the space. They provide for a wealth of finishing options: applying wallcoverings directly to them, filling, plastering plus painting.

System adhesives, jamb panels and insulating wedges complete the product range.

How it works

Mould formation can occur as a result of the building fabric or usage.

The following factors promote mould formation:

Building fabric: Usage:
Poor sealing, driving rain, rising damp Too little or wrong ventilation, e.g. windows permanently tilted
Surfaces that are too cold due to insufficient insulation Moisture level too high, e.g. drying laundry in the apartment
Thermal bridges Insufficient heating
Poor plumbing Furniture, such as cupboards, directly adjacent to the outside wall

DIN 4180-2 requires a temperature factor of the outer shell of at least 0.7 to prevent mould. The surface temperature may not be lower than 12.6° C when the outside temperature is at -5° C.

ERFURT-KlimaTec climate panels KP 1000+ and KP 2500+ were developed to improve an inadequate building fabric. The panels offer triple protection against mould formation:

Important information

If individual work is undertaken on old buildings, it can lead to infestation with mould, even though the building fabric was damage-free for decades. This is often the case when windows are replaced. New and much more tightly sealed windows and shutters inhibit natural ventilation. If ventilation habits are not changed, there will be a higher moisture load and thus a risk of mould forming. We therefore recommend first renovating the walls and then the windows. This is also useful because there are greater potential savings by renovating the walls with less financial outlay.
